Close Reading and Beyond!Envision the reimagining of what “close reading” could mean. We could analyze anything that is beyond the text, including different types of media and art. What does the citation of specific evidence that exists in multiple types of media look like in practice? How do students participate in “close viewings” of video and artwork, “close listening” of speeches, songs, and radio plays, and “close analyses” of multiple types of intersecting media? In this session, we’ll explore ways to make authentic in-class analysis mirror the out-of-class types of media that bombard our children daily.
